In my 33-year career, I have worked with various leaders and encountered extensive literature on leadership. I began my career as a young graduate engineer trainee and eventually took on the role of Managing Director of the company. I would like to share the leadership lessons I have learned over my 33-plus years in corporate life. I hope these lessons can help open a new line of thought on leadership and how it is evolving in today’s corporate world.
I have observed individuals ascend the corporate hierarchy based on their years of experience and develop various leadership styles, ranging from being a “terrible boss” to a “beloved superior.” Often, these leaders have limited exposure to the subject of leadership, and some of them believe that simply having the job title entitles them to give orders and directions and ask awkward questions.
The crucial question to consider is: Can someone be considered a leader if there is no one truly following them?
